HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (NEWS CENTER 23) — Former state district court judge Ernest Aliseda gladly accepted this high honor.
The board has not seen a Valley resident in over ten years.
Aliseda said he is excited to take on this role and to represent the needs of the state and the Valley to his best ability.
"I think access to higher education is key umm, and I think the merger will hopefully provide access to higher education at a better rate. And obviously we need highly educated individuals, I think our economy is transforming in the valley and, the need is there," said Ernest
Now this appointment does not mean Aliseda is not a part of the Board of Regents.
Aliseda will now go through a hearing in front of the state senate and they as a legislative body will decide on his appointment.
Aliseda said in the meantime, he plans to meet with state Senator Juan 'Chuy' Hinojosa to learn how to best prepare.
