SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS (KVEO NEWS CENTER 23) — The U.S.. Coast Guard caught two illegal Mexican fishing boats over the weekend when they were spotted fishing 30 to 40 miles offshore from South Padre Island on Friday. The fishermen were caught preparing illegal gill nets that were about 25,000 feet long and 300 pounds of Red Snapper and several sharks. Six crew members, from both boats, were turned over to Customs and Border Protection for release to Mexican law enforcement officials.
