north of edcouch, TX (News Center 23) — Delaware police confirm valley resident, Thomas Matusiewicz, 68, to be the shooter in the Delaware courthouse shooting that took the lives of two women and wounded several others.
Delaware police called up Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino and the McAllen FBI station asking for help Monday.
"The Delaware authorities stated that they needed a search warrant executed at the shooters residence located at 26295 FM-1015. Here in Edcouch, North of Edcouch," said Sheriff Lupe Trevino, Hidalgo County.
After almost a day of waiting, Trevino secured a search warrant to look inside the home.
"Authorities stated that the shooter and his family left from Texas to Delaware specifically to commit the shooting at the courthouse," said Trevino.
David Matusiewicz and his ex-wife were in a custody battle.
Thomas and his wife Lenore, along with their son David, all live in the residence on FM 1015.
"Now an evidentiary search warrant is a search warrant that seeks specific evidence that links our, the shooter, maybe this location, for the preparation of the shooting that occurred in Delaware," said Trevino.
Trevino wasn't able to release what they are looking for inside this home just that Delaware police said that they believe the evidence inside will show that this was a premeditated murder.
An anonymous person close to the investigation said Thomas Matusweitz was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. And police believe this may have led to his 'nothing left to live for' actions.
Thomas Matusweitz was killed by police fire. He killed David's ex-wife and her friend, and wounded two police officers.
