A Harlingen father is now convicted in the death of his child after the jury took around three hours to determine his punishment.
The jury convicted 39 year-old Roberto Antonio Alvarez in his role of the beating death of his daughter in February of 2007 and convicted him of injury to a child. A jury had convicted the baby's mother, Melissa Lucio, in the same crime of the punishment of death. Alvarez's conviction is for failing to seek and obtain medical care for his 2 and half year-old daughter, Mariah.
During his trial Alvarez took the stand and told jurors that he did not know it's a crime to not provide medical attention to an injured child. The jury will now have to decide Alvarez's punishment and he could spend 20 years in prison.
