SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS (NEWS CENTER 23) — Reducing or eliminating rabies is the goal for the Texas Department of State Health Services and South Padre Island is working alongside with them in the oral rabies vaccination program.
The department distributed a bait with the rabies vaccine around high coyote traffic areas near South Padre Island on Wednesday. The bait is made of fish meal and holds the rabies vaccine in the center of the treat and department officials are warning residents to avoid picking up the bait if they come across it.
