AUSTIN, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — State Representative R.D. "Bobby" Guerra was appointed to two House Committees today by Speaker of the House Joe Strauss. The Committees on which he will serve are Public Health and Transportation. The House Committee on Public Health examines the adequacy of the primary care workforce in Texas, addresses geographic disparities and makes recommendations to increase patient access to primary care. The House Committee on Transportation has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the Texas highway system, railroads, airports and water transportation, and the regulation and control of traffic on the public highways of the State of Texas.
After the committee assignments were released, Representative Guerra thanked the Speaker of the House for the selection, noting that both public health and transportation are two issues that impact the Rio Grande Valley tremendously. Representative Guerra looks forward to working with Chairwoman Kolkhorst and Chairman Phillips, as well as the other presiding members of both committees, toward a successful 83rd Session. When asked how he felt of the assignments, Representative Guerra said he is pleased with the committees chosen by Mr. Speaker as the issues under the committee purview greatly pertain to District 41, and that he is eager to make a meaningful contribution to the serious work of the session.
