BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (NEWS CENTER 23) — New figures show the port is the fourth largest foreign trade zone in the U.S. and the second largest in Texas.
Exports flowing out of the port of Brownsville last year were valued at over $750 million dollars mostly involving petroleum, steel and lubricating oils.
Now port officials want to turn that success into something even bigger in 2013.
"So here's another example of another tool we can use to attract manufacturing or industrial sector and all of these activities lead to more jobs and creating jobs."
The port of Brownsville employs around 5,000 employees.
