Senator Dianne Feinstein has introduced a bill that would ban the sale and manufacturing of 157 types of semiautomatic weapons, as well as magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
The bill would exempt firearms used for hunting and would grandfather in certain guns and magazines.
The proposed bill comes following the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults.
"One of the weapons that would be prohibited under the bill would be the AK 47."
Jaime Escobedo is the president of American Firing Range. He says he does not agree with proposed legislation.
"It’s our constitution right to protect ourselves."
"There are already thousands of law on the book, let’s enforce the laws that already exist, these laws are designed for you and I, law abiding citizens because criminals are going to care how many laws are on the book they are going to break those always."
We asked citizens of Brownsville proposed bill.
"I am for it, that would be good, we don't need assault weapons, there is to many of that are getting in to bad hands."
"People have the right to defend themselves it's not just I have an assault rifle, it’s more for hunting for all purposes, not going and killing people and stuff like that."
