BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — More than 30,000 people are buried at the cemetery, which is located at 5th and East Madison in the city's Historical District. The cemetery has been designated a "national register historic site." So the Brownsville City Commission has given preliminary approval to an ordinance requiring that any repairs or alterations to headstones must first be approved by the city's Heritage Council. Final adoption of that ordinance is expected shortly.
