LOS EBANOS, TEXAS (NEWS CENTER 23) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) announces that the Los Ebanos International Ferry Crossing will reopen for business effective January 19, 2013.
The Los Ebanos, TX International Ferry crossing will resume operations at 08:00 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013. The ferry crossing had been closed since Tuesday, January 2, 2013 due to high water levels stemming from the water release for irrigation and the recent rain.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers are on site to process international travelers returning from Mexico and the ferry is fully staffed with its operators providing service to the public.
CBP wants to remind the pubic to have their travel documents ready upon arrival to the U.S. inspection area and that having WHTI compliant documents will facilitate and expedite their trip. Also, to avoid fines and/or penalties, CBP stresses that all items should be declared to the officer.
“The safety of the traveling public is of utmost importance and the ferry operators have deemed it safe to utilize the ferry once again,” said Bob Parker, (acting) Port Director, Rio Grande City/Los Ebanos Port of Entry. “We will keep everyone notified of any future interruptions to the ferry as necessary.”
