HIDALGO COUNTY (NEWS CENTER 23) — Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are currently searching for 4 to 5 individuals all in their 20’s armed with a shotgun and a handgun, possibly traveling in a light colored Ford Taurus.
On January 17, 2013 at approximately 8:22p.m, the group entered the property located at 4859 Mile 10 North, Mercedes, Texas. After firing one shotgun blast at the door of the residence, the group kicked the door in and threatened the life’s of a family of 5. The group demanded money taking with them a wallet and some electronics. There were no injuries in this incident.
On same date, at approximately 8:37p.m, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies believe the same group entered the property at 4603 Tia Maria, approximately one mile from the first robbery location.
The group ascosted one of the victims on the driveway of the property where the victim struggled with the gunmen. During the struggle the victim sustained a minor gunshot wound to his wrist. The victim’s brother upon hearing the gunshot and struggle exited the residence and began also struggling with the robbers disarming one of them. A gun fight ensued, where the second victim received a minor gunshot wound to his face, which is non-life threatening.
There may be evidence that indicates that one of the robbers might have been shot. The robbers left the property empty handed.
Sheriff Trevino states, “ there is no reason to believe that the victims in these two home invasion are involved in any criminal activity nor is there any type of connection or association between them.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has assembled a special task force of 12 investigators from our Gang Unit, Robbery Investigation Unit , and the Tactical Patrol Unit to specifically work solely on apprehending this very dangerous groups of robbers. In addition we have notified all of our Patrol Division units, the Eastside constables and the DPS working the eastside to be on the look out for the light colored Taurus.
The attached photos are of a Ford Taurus used in the armed robbery of the Firebird Ice House located on Victoria Rd. North of Expressway 83. This may be the same vehicle and group responsible for the home invasion.
Vehicle Description: Suspect vehicle is approximately a 2000’s Ford 4 Door Taurus, light green in color with a spoiler on trunk. Vehicle has pink primer/body work on left rear dome pillar. Vehicle has a dent on the corner of the rear bumper.
Apprehending this group is a priority for the HCSO because of their violent tendencies.”
