Border Agent Involved in Shooting Near Port of Entry

RIO GRANDE CITY — A Border Patrol agent shot a suspected illegal immigrant near the port of entry in Rio Grande City on Wednesday evening. The agent witnessed several people getting into a vehicle near the port of entry and when he attempted to approach the vehicle the driver used tried to strike the agent with the vehicle. The agent fired his weapon striking the driver in the arm and causing the vehicle to come to a stop. The driver was taken to the hospital and three other individuals, in the vehicle, were detained and then processed.
