EDINBURG, TEXAS - If you've been to a UTPA Basketball game lately then you've had a chance to experience some action on the university's new state-of-the-art indoor video board.
Intense Basketball court action, spirited band, cheerleaders and dancers, and enthusiastic fans they're all part of the Bronc Games at UTPA. But much more excitement is in the atmosphere this season at UT Pan Am's Field house thanks to this huge jumbo Tran. The 34 1/2 feet wide, 13.6 feet high screen is believed to be the largest indoor video board in the Rio Grande Valley Athletic Director Chris King says the $250,000 gift is part of a beverage contract commitment the University has with Coca Cola for the Next 10 years. King says he's already seeing a tremendous impact all the way around.
Helping capture the action on the court and throughout the fieldhouse for the video board are students in the communications program. They're running camera and helping with other behind the scenes duties.
"the students have done a phenomenal job early in the season. They caught on to the system very quickly. it's great for them to get real life experience to go along with their academics to going towards graduation. they can take what they learn here out into the real world and so like I said anytime you can collaborate with the student body, it's great partnership."
The students enjoy being a part of the play by play action and say they're taking away a great deal of valuable experience
But just as important, the students appreciate helping get Basketball fans excited and lifting school spirit at UTPA.
