"My brother had a big heart and you could tell he touched the lives of many people. He wanted everyone together that's what he wanted the most he wanted to see his family together all time."
The Cameron County sheriff says that 18 year old Ricardo Ramos was shot and killed last Sunday by his 13 year old cousin with a .22 caliber rifle outside the Ramos home in Rio Hondo.
"He was out their hunting and the rifle had a scope and he pointed the gun at his cousin without realizing the weapon was loaded he pulled the trigger and accidentally shot and killed his cousin."
The 13 year old has been charged with second degree manslaughter and is currently detained at the Darrel Hester Detention Center.
Friday hundreds gathered to lay to rest Ramos who was very well known in Rio Hondo.
"As you can see Ramos had many friends in the roping community coming out to show their support today."
"Friend of mine, when I went to roping the first guy I met, great guy and good friend."
The Rio Hondo mayor calls Ramos's death very tragic for the small community and cannot stress the importance of gun safety.
"We need to educate our kids on gun use if we don't have training, we will have these types of tragedies.
