HIDALGO COUNTY - Looking for a job can be tough, but luckily in Texas that search is slowly getting a little easier.
With the unemployment rate now at a four year low, there is hope among some searching for that next steady paycheck.
"I have been coming here for the past month and I am looking for a job search," said Patricia Pena, Workforce Solutions Patron.
Right now Pena is using the help of workforce solutions to find that next job.
"Locally the unemployment rate has continued to decrease as well as on the national and on the state level. In fact, we are in the single digits right now, which is the first time since may, 2009 almost pre-recession time," said Victor De Leon, Workforce Solutions.
The new Texas Legislature begins convening next week and this year they have a surplus of $8 billion. Many people hope some of that money will continue to help job growth. But in the meantime, Workforce Solutions is urging people not to get down.
"So are there jobs available? Thousands of jobs. In fact, as of today we had over 28-hundred openings in the entire valley. So there are jobs available, you just got to come look for them," said De Leon.
It's numbers like these that give people like Pena hope.
"They are very helpful. They let you know if your resume needs any touch ups and things like that," said Pena.
With just a little more help, she firmly believe she won't be unemployed much longer.
