EDINBURG - He's a proud product of the Rio Grande Valley and on Friday he was back in the valley, we are talking about shot put Olympian Stephen Saenz. The Rio Grande City native spent two days helping coach a shot put clinic held here in the city of Edinburg.
Saenz competed for Mexico in the 2012 London Olympics, the 22-year old who graduated from Rio Grande City High says his experience competing in London was unforgettable. Saenz said, "it was amazing just to kind of get to see the city and get a good feel of what the olympics is all about, the spirit, the competition, and what you need to do better."
Saenz was a two time state high school champ, a junior national champion, and a three time All-American at Auburn University.
In 2011 Saenz also competed in the Pan American games held in Guadalajara, Mexico, finishing fourth in the competition.
During the camp Saenz got a chance to help throwers perfect their skills and techniques.
