WESLACO - He is a familiar face and has been serving as the city of Weslaco's Acting Police Chief for more than a year now, on Tuesday Michael Kelley was appointed as the new police chief.
Kelly has been serving the department for over 30 years, he says his top priorities are cracking down on crime, changing the department's structure and establishing better communication with citizens.
In the 31 years Kelley has served for the Weslaco P.D. he says he's seen many police chiefs come and go, but he plans to make a huge difference and stay for some time.
On a personal level, Kelly is a father of two and is also an Army veteran.
Kelley began his career with the Weslaco P.D.as a patrolman three decades ago.
He climbed the ranks until being appointed Interim Chief when Chief Juan Sifuentes resigned in October 2011.
