BROWNSVILLE — Well it was an early Merry Christmas for kindergarten students from Skinner Elementary in Brownsville. Today Santa paid them a special visit a few days shy of the big day.
"I'm so happy with Santa because he is so beautiful and it's Christmas," said kindergarten student, Katie Garcia.
Mr. Clause also had quite a bit of help from UTB-TSC in making this early visit such a success.
"We sent out emails to the staff and the students and every time that we think it's not going to come true, I mean, I just have real strong faith and it happens," said Co-Chair of the toy drive, Olga Garcia.
For the past 21 years it's been students and staff on campus that donate toys for this annual event. Today there were over three hundred toys to choose from, amongst the 110 kindergartners, meaning lots of extras, some of which were given away through drawings; one of those winners, Jesus Martinez.
"Do you have a bike at your house?
“Is this your first bike?”
“When are you going to ride it? You going to ride it after school today?
Some kids may wait until Christmas to open up their gifts others may play with them as soon as they get home, either way, organizers realize that this may be it when it comes to some of these little ones receiving toys for Christmas.
"The children are often in great need, this may be their Christmas so it's wonderful to pause a minute to recognize what we've got and to share it with others," said UTB President, Juliet Garcia.
"All in all, I just feel it's a sense of giving back to our community and especially these children, they're going to be our future," said Olga Garcia.
