Three Valley school districts appear on the Texas Attorney General's list for non-compliant school safety measures, the problem, only one of the district's actually is in full compliance. Both Edinburg C.I.S.D. and Valley View I.S.D. are up to date following a review of audits with the Texas School Safety Center and the Texas Attorney General's Office admits to the clerical error and will have the list corrected. Safety audits are required and done every three years and they help the school districts maintain levels of response during an emergency as Gilbert Tagle, from the Edinburg C.I.S.D., stated, "The safety audit was done last year in 2011. It was done by the Region One Service Center Safety Consultant, in conjunction, with the Edinburg Fire Department Fire Marshal Office and it was taken to the school board October 2011 and it was presented to them and it became official at that point."
The only school district that does not have an audit complete is the La Feria I.S.D., but Assistant Superintendent Robert Rivera says he is working to update it and that all La Feria schools follow and practice a board approved safety emergency plan.
