MCALLEN - He was a star wide receiver for the cowboys, a former sports announcer, and even a Dancing with the Stars competitor -- we are talking about Michael Irvin.
On Wednesday Irvin attended a special event at the Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen. Newscenter 23's Michael Lopez got a chance to speak with him about life as a retired NFL star and the recent tragedy involving the death of Dallas Cowboys player Jerry Brown. Brown died in a car wreck that involved teammate Josh Brent who was arrested for driving under the influence after a night of partying.
Brown was a practice-squad linebacker for the Cowboys he was also Brent's teammate for three seasons at the University of Illinois. During the tragic accident, Brown was found unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter.
During the interview Irvin stated it was important to be a good role model, especially for the youth and thanked all of his fans in the Rio Grande Valley.
