BROWNSVILLE — The days of being asked if you would like a smoking or non-smoking section at a restaurant or bar will be over in sixty days as city commissioners passed a change to the smoking ban ordinance. City commissioners voted 4 to 3 in favor of changing the ordinance at the second and final reading at Tuesday's meeting and the change will not allow any smoking inside public places, but it will be allowed outside the establishment but smokers must be 20 feet away from the doors or service windows. Voting in favor of the amended ordinance were Commissioners Melissa Zamora, Estela Chavez Vasquez, Rose M.Z. Gowen and Mayor Tony Martinez. Voting against were Commissioners Jessica Tetreau, Ricardo Longoria and John Villarreal.
