BROWNSVILLE — The City of Brownsville and it's residents were recognized for making great strides towards healthy improvements to their lives. The city received a first place standing in the Mid-City category for HEB's Healthy Communities Challenge which was based on a point system. Anytime there were healthy activities held throughout the city, at schools or businesses, pictures were uploaded by those involved in those activities to a site to earn the points as Judy Hernandez stated, "Any community activities that were inputted, like Zumbathons or some of the middle school and elementary schools, they did a lot of things in P.E.. classes. So, B.I.S.D. helped a lot with our point system with doing health initiatives in the schools."
