MCALLEN — It's considered a crime of opportunity, we are talking about smart phone thefts. As more and more people have them, these type of thefts are reaching epidemic levels and now with the holidays it's a reminder to be extra careful.
After the release of the new I-Phone 5, smart phone thefts hit an all time high in some major cities. Police say to be extra cautious and to not leave them in visible areas inside a car or anywhere in public.
As these electronic devices continue to rise in popularity, they become more attractive to thieves. Some smart phones can cost $500.00 dollars or even more, so having one ripped off can definitely burn a big hole in your pocket.
Police say never fight off a thief, instead call police and file a police report. Remember a smart phone is always replaceable, but your life isn't.
