Hidalgo County - They are a group of students that one by one are looking to make a difference in the lives of others. The group of students do this by not only reaching out to those with rehabilitation needs, but also remembering those that need a helping hand. We are talking about the Rehab Club at UTPA.
Nichole Valenta is a Rehabilitation major at UTPA, she's part of the club because she wants to reach out and educate others. Valenta says, "I think everyone, especially those with disabilities should be treated equally."
The U-T-P-A Rehab club has aided groups like Special Olympics, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and most recently is helping grant a wish to a 10-year old boy with terminal leukemia. Yordley C. Martinez is a 10-year old boy with a deadly leukemia, his dream is to travel to Disney World in Orlando, Florida with his mother. The club is working to make that possible.
Meantime, for the students it is not just about feeling the need to help, but instead enjoying the comradery, which inspires them to make a difference.
