LOUISIANA - Fire Breaks out on an offshore oil platform near Louisiana. Two people are still reported missing and eleven others were flown to local hospitals. The platform was not in production at the time. And the estimated amount of oil spilled is less than 30 gallons. Black Elk energy's CEO John Hoffman explained what his company currently believes to have been the cause of this morning's incident.
"what we know at this point is the line that was cut was supposed to be cut with a cold cutting device, a non-sparking device. Apparently , the construction crew used a cutting torch. That ignited vapors in the line which then ignited the tanks that was the explosion."
Hoffman emphasized that the situation is still under investigation and that the company's current priority is its missing and injured employees. The coast guard is still searching for two crew members who went missing after the explosion and fire.
