More than a thousand people were left without power in the Southmost area of Brownsville for more than five hours.
Power was out for three Brownsville schools as well as several businesses and homes because a utility pole caught on fire. It happened around 4:30 Wednesday morning off of Boca Chica and Old Port Isabel street. AEP crews were immediately deployed to try to fix the problem and reported that nearly 1,100 customers were affected by the outage. Crews restored power around 11:30 in the morning, but will head back on Thursday to replace some damaged equipement.
