EDINBURG — Going to the emergency room, at any age, is never fun, but Edinburg Regional Medical Center is making it a little friendlier for seniors. The hospital is now offering several rooms designed for the needs of the elderly in the community. With the growing senior population and the addition of Winter Texans visiting the Valley the hospital management decided to make the ER a more comforting environment for those over 65 years of age. CEO of Edinburg Regional Medical Center, Jennifer Garza, stated, "They come here anyway, but it is more of us having a direct focus so we are meeting their needs. There are separate areas, as you can see, the room right behind me and we have four more rooms right in the back and all are equipped this way so that when they come, our staff have what they need and our seniors have what they need."
The rooms are equipped with step stools, reading glasses, warming blankets, improved lighting, bed-side railing and even an amplification device so patients can better hear what their doctor is saying.
