Cameron county sheriff deputies made a big cocaine bust on nearly half a million dollars that was headed to Florida.
Two men are behind bars fro trying to transport $400,000 dollars worth of cocaine. Sheriff Omar Lucio says a 2002 Expedition driven by Carlos Alvarez was pulled over in Brownsville for a traffic violation. Deputies noticed the drivers license and insurance were expired and then asked Alvarez to search the vehicle. Inside they found duffle bags filled with 15 bundles of cocaine weighing close to 40 pounds.
The sheriff went on to mention that the man transporting the cocaine to Florida was Reya Delgado and he has a pending charge for trying to transport 100 cartons of cigarettes. Alvarez faces possession of cocaine and possession of stolen vehicle charges and both men could face 2 to 20 years in prison.
