A man facing life in prison for the beating death of his toddler testified in court on Thursday afternoon.
Roberto Antonio Alvarez testified the he did not know it's a crime to deny medical treatment to your child when something is wrong with them. His daughter Mariah Alvarez died of several injuries after a beating and a jury found her mother guilty of capital murder and sentenced her to death. Attorneys for Alvarez claimed he is not competent to stand trail, but a judge ruled otherwise after expert testimony last week. Alvarez took the stand on Thursday and told jurors he sometimes has difficulty understanding the prosecution's questions.
