South Padre Island's Board of Alderman approved the implementation of a new method of reducing coastal erosion.
The method uses submerged low profile geo textile tubes that will be placed underwater in different areas of the beach. Most will be placed around the first and second sand bars which should slow down the process of sand migration to reduce erosion. The project is the first of its kind on the Texas coast and will help the island to preserve the beaches, dunes and infrastructure.
Funding for this project will come from a grant by the Texas General Land Office.
