HIDALGO COUNTY — Texas Rangers have provided their review of the investigation on a DPS helicopter shooting of a vehicle believed to be involved in a high speed chase involving human smuggling and causing two undocumented immigrants to die, Amber Downing has more on the investigation.
At approximately 3 PM on October 25th Texas Game Wardens attempted to stop a suspicious red truck on an unpaved road in Hidalgo county. The vehicle traveled more than six miles refusing to stop and increased it's speed to avoid capture. A DPS helicopter arrived at the location to assist in the high speed chase and noticed that the truck bed was covered by a trap which usually is used to cover up suspected drug loads. The truck was heading towards several schools in the area and at this point with almost 13 miles into the chase the DPS helicopter fired shots at the truck in an attempt to shoot out the tires. The chase ended, once the vehicle was disabled, and officers report that during the chase the truck bed was covered by the tarp and that the officer never say any people in the truck bed. Two individuals were killed from the shots fired and the Hidalgo County District Attorney is reviewing the case.
