Police say a pregnancy scare in Palmview revealed a sexual crime and now a English teacher is behind bars.
According to Mission police, 26 year-old Osiel Muñoz was in a relationship with a 17 year-old female student at the same high school he taught. Officials say this relationship started six weeks ago when she started talking to Muñoz about problems she was having with an ex-boyfriend. From those conversions, they started text messaging each other and that led to their sexual relationship. Police say Muñoz picked up the student from her house on two occasions and had unprotected sex in his truck. The girls parents had no idea of the relationship until she confessed to a school counselor.
Although the relationship was consensual, under the penal code the 17 year-old student is an adult, the law states it's illegal for any employee of a primary or secondary school to engage in any type of sexual act with a person enrolled at the school where the employee works.
Muñoz was charged with improper relationship between educator and student which is a second degree felony. Muñoz was taken to county jail under a $200,000 dollar bond.
