Many sports teams take advantage of their off season to take it easy, rest and mentally prepare for a new year. But not UTPA's Baseball Broncs. the players are spending a lot of their spare time reaching out to the community in hopes that they will make a significant difference in someone's life. On this day, the guys hosted a bone marrow drive at the university library as their way of contributing to help save the life of 5 year old Nolan Naranjo of Brownsville seen in this photo posing for the team from his Houston Hospital room. Nolan has MDS or Pre-Leukemia, the same disease that's recently stricken ABC's Good Morning America's Robin Roberts.
Head Bronc Baseball coach Manny Mantrana says he's proud of his team for coming together and hosting the bone marrow drive. In fact his players are having a hard time dealing with Nolan's Deteriorating condition after getting to meet him. The young boy hung out with the student- athletes and threw the ceremonial first pitch at one of the games.
Nolan's Family is especially grateful for UTPA and the support of the Baseball Team.
