Construction continues for the West rail project.
"The West Rail project is about relocating rails that were going through Brownsville and Matamoros, what this rail does it elevates and takes away rail lines in Brownsville and Matamoros."
The West Rail is located across from Veterans high school on 281. Over the weekend was a historic event.
"Symbolically placed one of the spans that connects the Mexican side to the US side."
"Historic this is the first rail bridge in over a 100 years that connects that connects the US to Mexico."
"The West Rail spans around 6 miles and has a price tag of $35-$40 million."
"It will allow for the quicker transportation of a lot commodities, still other products that can go from the US to Mexican side."
Besides the economic impact
Traffic will flow more smoothly.
"What its going to do is elevate rails going through busy streets busy intersections and elevate traffic congestion on the US side but on the Mexican side as well."
Judge Carlos Cascos hopes the project is operational starting in the spring.
