Brownsville-The fire department says Sunday morning a fire started at the 209 Dix. A grandmother, a grandfather, and 21 month old baby boy were sleeping when the fire started.
The family's dog started barking trying to alert the people inside there was a fire. The dog was able to wake up the grandmother.
"The wife got up noticed the heavy smoke, woke up her husband, the husband grabbed the baby and literally trying to crawl out of the mobile home the grandfather trying to save the baby but was unsuccessful and both ended up passing away."
The fire department says 51 year old Raymond Zaragoza and his grandson Leon Esquivel were the victims.
"The family's dog was also unable to survive the fire."
The grandmother was able to get out of the home. The fire department says the family did not have a smoke alarm in the home.
At this time the cause of the fire is unknown.
"We know it started in a front bedroom area, that’s where we are concentrating, but because of the heavy damage there is a lot evidence destroyed."
