David Pedley D.D.S. is Buying Back Holloween Candy From Children For $1/Pound And Sending It To Troops Overseas.
Local event is part of dentists nationally partnering with Operation Gratitude.
Brownsville, TX, Sept 7, 2012 – Rather than let leftover Halloween candy be wasted or thrown away, Dr. David Pedley here in Brownsville will be “buying-it –back” from children and then sending it (via Operation Gratitude) overseas to our troops.
“The day after Halloween parents and children can bring their unopened Halloween candy and we will buy it back from them for $1.00 per pound. We also encourage the children to write a thank you note to our service men and women and we will include that along with the candy we ship to Operation Gratitude.” says Dr. Pedley.
When our overseas troops receive their Halloween Candy packages, they usually give it to children in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. The candy helps build local relationships and in some cases the improved communication has helped soldiers locate the enemy and where explosives are buried. Even a little candy can help save lives.
The notes provide the one thing the military can’t provide…a reminder the people at home still care.
With obesity in children and young adults on the rise as well as the high cavity rate found in kids here in the Valley, a diet with less of the sugar found in Halloween candy is a good step towards healthier nutrition for kids….but they can still have the fun of trick or treating and feel good about the candy they collect.
Unopened candy can be dropped off at Dr. David Pedley’s Dental Practice Thursday, November 1 from 5:30 to 7:30. There will be drawings and prizes for everyone who attends.
