MISSION — People in the upper valley stop to remember a professional football coach from Mission on his birthday.
A mural in Mission reminds us of the legendary Tom Landry.
In high school, Landry helped lead the Mission Eagles to the regional championship.
He then played for the University of Texas and also the New York Giants.
Landry coached the Dallas Cowboys for 29 years and lead them to two superbowl victories.
Local fans and residents remember the icon.
"In his era, he was one of the best coaches in the league. Everybody knows him, he was real popular. You know, he did a lot for the cowboys."
"Mission is such a small town, to have somebody so big come out of Mission is really amazing."
Landry passed away in 2000. He was 75 years old.
