Police say it happened at this Well's Fargo on Southmost Wednesday.
Police say Gerardo Mendez went into the bank and asked the clerk for money.
"In the process the clerk asked the man for ID to see if he had an account, there was no weapon displayed, the clerk runs the name and lets the subject know he didn't have an active account and the subject hands the clerk a note at that point the clerk took that as he was trying to the rob the bank."
Police say he demanded $5,000. Police say Mendez then tried jumping the counter when another teller pushed him back.
He was escorted out of the bank with no money.
"Police say Mendez didn't stop there after attempting to rob the bank he ran across the street into this jewelry store and police say he stole a ring."
Police say he then fled but they didn't have a hard time finding out where he was.
"With the information the clerk got from the ID he showed her we were able to obtain a local address and officers were able to take him into custody."
Mendez was charged with aggravated robbery and one count of theft.
