McAllen High's Tino Hong's story of how he landed a roster spot in tomorrow's Texas high School coaches association all-star football game shows a lot of heart -- a work-out machine, Tino spent Friday evening in the gym and weight room -- when he returned home around 8 o'clock he saw many missed calls from his coaches and teammates from McAllen -- Tino had been asked to join the south all-star team last minute and needed to be in Austin for a morning practice..
"I explained to my parents and my dad said let's eat and then go.."
Tino's dad then drove his son from the Valley to Austin starting at 11 o'clock Friday night...arriving at roughly four in the morning
"We got two hours of sleep and then deny's then off to practice!"
Tino's dad stayed to watch his son take every other series of snaps in the morning session before returning home -- while he may be sleep deprived, Tino's definitely awake enough to appreciate the experience..
"Take it in slow and enjoying it -- can't wait for tomorrow's game.."
The all-star contest kicks off at 7:30 -- Tino will be blocking for McAllen Memorial's Patrick Granchelli -- the only Valley athletes on the South roster.
