The Weslaco school board tonight relieves head football coach Tony Villarreal of his athletic coordinator duties.
Villarreal will remain the head coach of the Panthers, but with less power. He no longer has the ability to hire coaches. Sources close to the situation inform NewsCenter 23 this may be a move by the board into pushing Villarreal out the door, but the board says they are considering a contract extension. In his fifth season as Weslaco's coach, the Panthers have a 35-and-15 overall record, including three playoff wins. We will continue to update you on this story as it develops. For now, coach V is expected to be on the sidelines with Weslaco when the Panthers host Edinburg this Friday.
