MCALLEN — The McAllen Police Department, as part of it's yearly training, learned more about crowd psychology and controlling crowds on Wednesday at training seminar. With the Fourth of July nearing managing officers listened in to learn more about crowd mentality and how to prepare for the worst case scenario. Two nationally known speakers spoke not only the logistics of crowds but also the psychology of them. Dr. Ann Sasaki Madigan stated, "When different agencies and police departments have special events they need to do a lot of pre-planning to look at possible issues that could come out, to make sure that best and worst case scenarios are covered and that they are prepared for unfortunate worst case scenarios."
Police Chief Rodriguez says many of the points brought up at the presentation are practices the department already uses, but it never hurts to have a fresh reminder before a big event like the Fourth of July.
