10-year-old girl crashes grandmother's car in McDonald's parking lot.
Surveillance cameras at a Quincy, Massachusetts McDonald’s captured a 10-year-old girl on a joyride with her grandmother’s car.
The joyride ended when the girl slammed into three cars.
“This dark car is the first car that pulls into the parking lot and gets struck by the light colored car driven by the 10-year-old girl and then it drives into the parked cars, the two white parked cars,” said Lt. Jack Sullivan of the Quincy police department as he watched the video.
Police said the 74-year-old grandmother let the girl, who was wearing a cast for a broken arm, get behind the wheel.
“We see the driver of the first car that got struck getting out and at the same time we see the 10 year old getting out and going around to the driver’s side and here we see the grandmother getting around from the passenger’s side to the driver’s side to switch seats,” said Sullivan.
According to police, the grandmother tried to tell them a different story about what happened.
“She told them that she was allowing the 10 year old to sit in her lap and play with the steering wheel and that the 10 year old put the car into drive. That’s how it occurred. But, you can see with the videotape, it shows otherwise and there were witnesses also that told us that they saw the grandmother and the granddaughter change places,” said Sullivan.
No one was injured and the damage was minor.
“This is in a public parking lot on a Sunday afternoon when it’s probably a very busy time -- in the springtime when there’s a lot of people out going to McDonald’s at that hour,” said Sullivan.
The grandmother will be summoned to court.
She was cited for allowing someone without a license to drive her car.
