HIDALGO COUNTY — More than 58,000 people came out to vote in Hidalgo county and the county election department says while these are good numbers they aren't the numbers they expected. After an astounding year for early voting, polling places expected more residents to vote on Election Day. Yvonne Ramon, of the Elections Department, stated about the turnout, "We were the number one for Republican and Democrats . We were over 13% to 14% in early voting and we were hoping that this indication would continue on Election Day and it did. Our numbers are certainly good numbers, but we have over 290,000 registered voters and so when we have 52,000 go out and vote, we need to do more." Mrs. Ramon says voters need to remember runoff elections are coming up and that everyone should vote on July 31st.
