Woman shot at and set ablaze by boyfriend who didn't want child.
Two suspects arrested for attacking and trying to kill a pregnant woman are heading to court.
The 22-year-old was abducted, bound, set on fire and then shot at according to police.
The woman went on a date with the father of the baby.
When they returned to his garage, an accomplice was waiting inside.
“Someone grabbed her from behind, placed a gun to her head, ordered her to the ground. And then duct taped her hands, her feet and her mouth,” says Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green.
The mother of the boyfriend was at the house when the attack occurred, but said she did not know what happened.
The woman tells police she was driven to a vacant lot near I-75 and I-94 when the attempted murder happened.
Green says the woman continued, “the person sprayed lighter fluid on her. She heard a person light a match, throw the match on her and she started on fire. She was able to roll out of the vehicle. She was rolling on the ground trying to put the fire out when she heard two shots. One shot struck her in the back. And she tells the officers that she basically played dead.”
The woman says the man ran off on foot.
She was able to drive to her mother’s house on Detroit’s east side and her mother drove her to the hospital.
When police were called, the boyfriend became the prime suspect.
“After he was questioned, he was taken into custody,” Green says.
On Sunday, police said they made a second arrest of the alleged kidnapper and assailant.
The woman was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon.
