Two teenagers face drug possession charges after a Peñitas police officer found more than 400 pounds of marijuana, Michelle Macias brings us the report.
What would have been a simple traffic violation turned into what police call a major drug bust on Tuesday night. A Peñitas police officer pulled a truck over because the inspection sticker was expired, but quickly escalated to something much bigger when the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the bed of the truck.
Police Chief Oscar Ontiveros says when people are carrying over 400 pounds of weed, a high speed chase occurs, but that didn't happen in this case. The men are in their teens and cooperated with officers and informed the officer where the marijuana was hidden. They were taken to the Hidalgo county jail and will face drug possession charges.
