MCALLEN — Valley doctors say the mild climate is largely to blame for asthma and a recent ranking by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation found the McAllen, Edinburg and Mission area jumped from it's 25th ranking to 9th worst area for asthma. The foundation judges each city for pollen counts, air quality, public smoking bans and the use of asthma medications. Dr. Maria Falcon says the asthma numbers would go down locally if more people used the right medication, "Asthma treatment requires a lot of education and I really think that is so important and because many times people are fearful of the medications that are used to treat asthma."
