The Cash for Clunkers Program, officially know as a car allowance rebate system, allows customers to trade in their older, polluting gas guzzlers and get cash or credit toward the purchase of a new fuel efficient vehicle.
Here's how it works, if you own a car made from 1984 to 2001 you can take it to a participating car dealership and get between $3,500 to $4,500 dollars toward the purchase of a new car. Your old car must get under 18 miles per gallon and you must purchase a car that gets over 18 miles per gallon. Local car dealer, The Real Don Johnson dealership says the program is spiking their sales.
Details on the program can be found on-ling at http://www.cars.gov , but the Texas Attorney Generals Office warns there are scam artist's on-line asking people to register on-line using personal information which is not required.
