In San Juan, a group of men are in jail and more arrests are in the works as the D.E.A. and other law enforcement agencies made a big bust, picking up almost a ton of marijuana worth around $3.7 million dollars.
The Police Chief in San Juan thanks his canine unit for Monday nights bust. Over 1,800 pounds of marijuana was seized from a home on the 1800 block of West Texas in San Juan. When authorities arrived the got consent to search the home from the homeowner. He claimed no drugs were inside, but the canine unit busted him and four other individuals. The drug sniffing dogs found 56 bundles inside a van and nine inside the home. The men were arrested and four vehicles were also seized.
San Juan police got their two canines in March and in just three months the dogs have made many successful seizures. All five men have been charged with possession of marijuana, a second degree felony, and they were transported to the Hidalgo county jail on a $100,000 dollar bond for each.
