EDINBURG — Edinburg Economedes high school is one of three schools in the nation to receive the prestigious Gaston Caperton Inspiration Award. The award is aimed at schools that improve their academic environments and help underserved students to reach a higher education. One goal is to have 100% of students to get accepted to a college or university and Economedes high has done this the last two years. Economedes Principal Gloria Rivera stated, "Once you get a college degree you'll never experience poverty and your family will never also, nor will your grandkids. That's what's so powerful about this award, it validates our work, the students work." Economedes high school will be receiving a $25,000 dollar grant for it's effort.
