LA JOYA — After years of working in a cramped space the La Joya I.S.D. police department will soon have more room to work in.
On Thursday, school board members, school police and other city officials gathered at a ground breaking ceremony site for a new station building. Construction is underway at the site located near the Ann Richards middle school and school board president Arnoldo Ochoa stated he's glad to finally break ground at the site, "It's been in the process already for, I'm gonna say three years or more and slowly it's been getting shape and today is the official ground breaking. So, from here I think it's about a year, two years before the finished product."
In addition to the new police department building, a new nutrition center will also be built at the site which will ensure a faster distribution of food to each of the schools.
